C.K Akonnor parade his squad to grab a point against South Africa

Stalwart midfielder Mubarak Wakaso captained and spearhead the Ghana Black Stars as they inflict a 1-1 stalemate against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa at First National Bank Stadium (FNB) to remain top spot in Group C in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Johannesburg on Thursday 25th March, 2021. 

The Black Stars of Ghana who were of the same level of points with the South Africans but with a superior goal difference were able to grab a point after their meeting with the South Africans in Johannesburg. 

Both teams went into the game in search of a ticket to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament. 

Head Coach C.K Akonnor paired Mubarak Wakaso together with Kudus Mohammed and Afriyie Acquah in the middle. 

The flanks were also occupied by Spezia’s Emmanuel Gyasi and former Asante Kotoko forward Kwame Opoku. 

South African’s number four (4) shirted man Thepelo Morena strike twice to the side of the pole which failed to threaten experience goalkeeper Razak Abalora after connecting well with two dangerous opportunities.  

Despite the Bafana Bafanas having the most possession of the game in the first half never stopped the Black Stars from continuing their one-two possession. 

They tried to be on the ball as much as possible and you can literally see some enthusiasm in their play. They keep exchanging some one touch passes and waits for the right moment to send a killer pass during the start of the second fragment. 

Ajax star man, Kudos Mohammed broke the deadlock just four minutes after recess to put the Black Stars of Ghana into comfortable lead inside 49th minute. The deadly midfielder’s goal augmented his side’s morale as the pressure putted on them reduce drastically. 

In surprise for the Black Stars, Brighton swift winger Percy Tau quickly level the game to make 1-1 within three minutes interval. 

But minutes later, Kudus’ strikes a far range shot which found its way over the post. 

In the dying moments of the game, the Bafana Bafanas had a golden opportunity to pick up a win over the Black Stars when defender Innocent Maela attempted a sumptuous strike but goalkeeper Abalora was active to deny the South Africans from adding the goal to end the match at 1-1 at FNB stadium. 

Ghana Black Stars will now cross swords with São Tomé and Principe on Sunday 28th March, 2021 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
