MATCH PREVIEW: Karela vs AshantiGold – Would Karela uphold their winning run in the second stage of the GPL

After an electrifying fixtures which took place on Friday and Saturday, the second phase of the Ghana Premier League still continues today where Nzema-Anyinase based side Karela United will lock horns with Obuasi based club AshantiGold Sporting Club. 

Second placed, Karela United will be in action with AshantiGold at their peerless home turf, Crosby Awuah Memorial Park (CAM Park) on their match day eighteen skirmish of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday 4th April, 2021. 

Both clubs have augmented their current talented playing body with new signings ahead of the second round of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season.

New gaffer of AshantiGold SC Roman Folz and his charges are also hoping to kickstart the second round with a sweet victory over the Anyinase club to aid them move from their current position on the GPL standings. 

A win for Karela United will also see them move back to their ducky position (1st). 

Both teams have failed to snatch all the three points in their first round meeting as it ended in 2-2 draw at Len Clay Sports Stadium in the Ashanti region where spoils were shared at the end of the proceedings. 

The Passion and Pride Lads have L4, D4 and W9 games in the first round of the GPL while The Miners on the other hand have also L5, D7 and W5. 

Going further back, the reigning champions in the first phase, Karela United have boasted an impressive unbeaten run in their home games. All the same, despite their scintillating home form, they suffered a 0-2 defeat on their match day thirteen showdown against the twenty four (24) times GPL champions Asante Kotoko SC which halted their 66-game unbeaten home record. 

The two clubs have only won one match in their away trips in the first round, Karela won against Ebusua Dwarfs while AshantiGold also thrashed the Accra based side Great Olympics at the country’s capital stadium. However, The Gold and Yellows are yet to record their second away win in Anyinase. 

Both clubs come from victories and have shown fulgurous performances during the first round and it will be a clash of the titans as both teams are on superb form despite the points gap between them. 

Majority of the GPL followers have dubbed AshantiGold SC winning this game as an optical illusion. 

The match will kick-off exactly 3:00pm.
